Toilet Ek Prem Katha: Weekend collections cross the Rs 50 crore mark
Almost every Friday, fate of a new movie is decided. The entire film's crew has to go through nail-biting anxious moments while they wait for the final verdict of the box office. Toilet Ek Prem Katha, which was released on last Friday, has however, passed this acid test with flying colours by collecting a mammoth Rs 51.45 crore over the weekend, as per trade analyst Taran Adarsh's released figures.

The Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar starrer had released on August 11. Since then, it has been quite good showing for this flushy toilet saga. A satirical comedy, the movie carries a relevant social message which somehow could not be flushed away from the audience's hearts and minds. The movie managed collections of Rs 21.25 crore on the third day (Sunday) of its release, which is extraordinary, Adarsh tweeted.

This outstanding performance of the film has ended a drought of sorts for Bollywood which had been going through a rough patch since last few months with no big blockbuster striking gold at the box office. Films like Tubelight and Jab Harry Met Sejal, which were expected to do well, bombed at the box office. The last film that did salvage some pride was Baahubali 2, in April this year.

Toilet Ek Prem Katha's storyline clicked with the audience. The film showcases the real plight of thousands of Indians who still relieve themselves by defecating in open fields. TEPK blends the real motive behind education with entertainment in a unique way.

Writer duo Siddhartha-Garima picked up a topic which has been a cause of concern since independence. The basic right to hygiene and safety is an expensive affair in our country even today. It's not about building a castle but it's more about building a toilet that says it all.

The way the film is performing, it is estimated that it would touch the Rs 100 crore mark in a few days.

Directed by Shree Narayan Singh, Toilet Ek Prem Katha revolves around the conflicts and dramatic curves between Keshav and Jaya. The crux of the film is the battle to construct a latrine or toilet. As simple as it may sound but this very plot unleashes streaks of conflicts and drama.

Akshay is the real hero; his performance in the movie is praise worthy and he perfectly sets the pace of this satirical comedy. All throughout, the movie does not deviate for once from the core message which it wants to convey. Bhumi has done complete justice to her role with her bold repartee. Jaya represents the woman of today. Her demands, her persuasion, her pursuits play a very important role in the movie.

B-town celebrities including Kjo have been promoting the film by sharing funny tweets. Akshay Kumar in his promotional drive, unveiled 24 toilets in 24 hours, according to sources.

Well, this movie is sure to stay with us and cannot be flushed away in the faraway fields...A toilet, a love story and a better world it promises!
