Tom Vaughan helps Merlin make magic
Merlin Entertainments is one of the world's biggest names in attractions. They turned to Tom Vaughan of La Fosse Associates when they decided to make a big change. The big switch paid off in a major way.

Tom Vaughan has a reputation for finding people. He's not a detective or a genealogist but rather someone who has insight into people. No, not a psychologist either but he is a qualified hypnotherapist; perhaps this is the secret ingredient of his success.

Vaughan has an impressive list of credits when it comes to helping businesses find professionals who make their structure and culture work on a much higher level. His work with London (and now US) based La Fosse Associates has been credited with empowering Culture Trip, Merlin Entertainments, and others attain worldwide recognition and notoriety. Tom's work takes place long before this attention ever occurs but it leads to many of these executives and CEOs repeatedly seeking him out to bring the best of the best to them. When Mark Allsop was CIO at Sony Pictures he hired Tom to build his tech leadership team, returning to Tom when he assumed the CIO position at Merlin Entertainments. Allsop's desire to transition Merlin from a work force of contractors to one based on permanent hires was a dramatic shift for the company. The insight and expertise Tom proved during the Sony Pictures project confirmed that Tom was essential to helping him create a new corporate culture for Merlin 

Merlin Entertainments may be based in Britain but they are expansive across the world with one-hundred twenty-seven attractions, nineteen hotels, and seven holiday villages located in twenty-seven countries. It boasts twenty-seven thousand employees and a net income of nearly $300,000,000. It is listed on the London Stock Exchange and is a constituent of the FTSE 250 Index. As Europe' largest operator of theme parks and tourist attractions, Allsop's decision to change the company's structure had huge potential for failure or success. His decision to trust Tom Vaughan to set the proper course in regards to new members of the Merlin Entertainments family was an incredible sign of faith. With attractions like Legoland (Florida), Chessington World of Adventures, Madame Tussaaruds, DreamWorks Tours, and the London eye, the effects would be felt worldwide throughout the UK, Asia, and the US. 

Merlin's CEO desired to manifest a group who was committed to and invested in the company, a complete cultural reboot. Employees and company would be mutually invested in a benevolent future created and empowered by each other. Vaughan was tasked with building a brilliant, cohesive leadership team that would grow and evolve together. Tom recruited seventy professionals for Merlin, spanning a variety of vocations within their structure. Five years later, ninety percent of the leadership team still remains as part of the Merlin Entertainments family. Coupled with that retention is the company's increase in share prices from £3.45 to £5.47, their highest ever. The gamble which Mark Allsop took could be considered prescient…or perhaps the result of placing Tom Vaughan in charge; a win is a win regardless. 

When questioned about how he attained this Midas touch in finding the best people for a company like Merlin Entertainments, Vaughan relates, "I'm fortunate in that my time with La Fosse Associates, experiencing the growth and culture we have, has given me an instinct for what other companies seek to enable them. I think most people are more globally minded these days. Smartphones and technology allow us all to constantly connect and I think this will continue to expand. When it comes to a company like Merlin Entertainments, there's also a universality to what they do. People across the planet want to have fun and lose themselves with friends and family. Part of that core exists in the company itself and my role was to help them find qualified people who share that passion. It's fun and exciting to be a part of that sentiment."
