Toward Learning without Fear: Document review
"Toward Learning without Fear" is a relevant report that can be helpful for schools to create the right kind of learning environment and social pedagogy in schools to enhance the quality of educations, With the contributions of Peter Newell and Sharon Owen, the report has been published and distributed by Plan International, New Delhi.

According to the publisher, report and focuses on violence in Indian schools  covering corporal punishment, sexual violence and bullying, neglect, verbal abuse, emotional abuse, peer-to-peer violence, youth gangs, use of weapons, and harassment in school as well as violence  on the journey to and from school.

A good number of recent studies and news reports indicate that violence in schools is on the increase. I other words schools are becoming the nurseries of violence and education itself is becoming problematic.

Keeping this scenario in view, a study report by Plan-India titled "Learn without Fear. The campaign to end violence in schools - Challenges in India" was analyzed and attempt was made to cull out a model of fear-free school as an alternative to the patchwork of a campaign.

The content analysis indicated punishment, sexual violence, bullying, neglect, verbal abuse, emotional abuse, peer-to-peer violence, gangs, use of weapons, and harassment in school and on the journey to and from school. The content analysis  and model making methodology as desk work resulted in  creating and proposing a self-esteem building model with differentiated learning to impart a feeling of success to every child with cooperation as  the key value as a replacement to competition to have a joy of learning and being wanted in the school.

The conclusion is that unless schools do not run on a model of learning that values every child and nurtures their learning potentials to the full, there cannot be peace in the world.
