The Oversight Committee chairman Rep Edolphus Towns has said that Toyota Motors has withheld relevant electronic records that it was legally required to produce in response to discovery orders in litigation.
AUTO MAKER Toyota Motors is getting into further complications with US lawmakers now. A few days back, Toyota’s internal documents were subpoenaed by the lawmakers and it was alleged that Toyota’s management intentionally implemented policies which, according to the Oversight Committee, were in “systematic disregard for the law”.
The Oversight Committee chairman Rep Edolphus Towns has insisted the Toyota Motors management answer a few crucial questions. Speaking to Dow JonesTowns said, "We have reviewed these documents and found evidence that Toyota deliberately withheld relevant electronic records that it was legally required to produce in response to discovery orders in litigation."
Toyota Motors has not yet responded to the rest of the questions put forward by the Oversight Committee. It has however denied the accusations that the company had deliberately withheld evidence of vehicular safety issues from its consumers.
