ON FRIDAY July 31, Toyota lunched its new Camry in India. Toyota is looking at selling around 500 units of the new variant of the luxury sedan. At a news conference held in Bangalore, officials from Toyota's India unit said that the new Camry was priced between Rs21,26,000 and Rs23,40,000 and will be available in four grades. Toyota believes that the new launch will revitalise sales of this model. The earlier version of the Camry saw its sales go down by more than 75 per cent in the April-June quarter; Toyota sold only 44 units as compared to 182 for the same period last year. A major share of this market in this category, has been taken by its rival Skoda Auto.
Sandeep Singh, Deputy Managing Director, Toyota Kirloskar Motors, said that Camry is not a volume product but is more of a brand and showcase of technologies by Toyota. Hiroshi Nakagawa, TKM's Managing Director said that the Toyota Camry had already defined the concept of premium category cars in India and the new Camry will not only offer an exclusive blend of modern styling but also a bundle of luxurious features.
Company officials said that the new Camry sports a new exterior design and has features like plasmacluster air conditioner with minus ion generator, intelligent rain sensing wipers and moonroof. The Camry will be available in colours such as dark green mica metallic and beige mica metallic.
