Toyota Kirloskar Motor Pvt. Ltd.(TKM), in collaboration with Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) and its nationwide dealer network, has introduced a distinctive training model General Repair & Body and Paint Repair (BP) at the Government Industrial Training Institute (Old), Kancharapalem, Visakhapatnam.
T-TEP, a special training module was launched in 2006 in India. In a span of 5 years, 22 institutes have been covered under the program. In its first year, the program was implemented in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Hubli. The program was subsequently introduced in Bangalore, Pune, Cochin, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Ghaziabad, Kolkata, Jaipur, Jalandhar, Indore and Mumbai. As a part of this 2010-11 plan, the program was implemented in Ahmedabad, Pune, Haliyal & Sitapur in Nov 2010. T-TEP curriculum is divided into two parts – General and Body & Paint. The “General” T-TEP imparts training on special training module aimed at enhancing the general skill sets and employability of the students.
The “Body and Paint Repair Syllabus” focuses on enhancing specific skills required for body and paint repair. The syllabus has been developed in collaboration with the Department of Training and Technical Education, State Government. With this special program, Toyota Kirloskar Motor intends to enhance the technical abilities and employability of ITI students in the age group of 16 to 18 years. The program will benefit ITIs in building skilful technicians for the Indian automotive repair industry. The current automobile repair industry is characterised by inadequately skilled manpower and lack of professional training for repair and diagnostics, especially for the vehicles, introduced recently, in the market. This often forces the dealerships to recruit manpower from local garages. Thus Toyota designed a special training program focussed on body and paint repair. T-TEP body and paint is a unique initiative undertaken by TKM, in partnership with ITIs and its dealers across India, to remove this lacuna. The students will also receive, on-the-job training, at Toyota’s dealerships. As a part of this program, TKM will also train institute instructors in the latest technology, used in Toyota and the automobile industry. TKM and TMC together provide T-TEP institutes with hi-tech training packages and Toyota service training manuals and materials. DuPont and 3M have also extended their support by providing latest equipments and material required for training. To begin with, the course will provide training to 40 students in Body & Paint and 20 students in General category every year.Toyota introduced the BP T-TEP in Delhi in 2009 and in Ahmedabad, Pune and Haliyal in Nov 2010. T-TEP supports Toyota’s comprehensive human resource development system that extends from training at T-TEP institutes to recruitment and development at Toyota dealerships. Speaking about the initiative, Mr. Sandeep Singh, DMD, Marketing, Toyota Kirloskar Motor Pvt Ltd, said, “The Indian Automobile industry has been growing at a rapid pace. This has generated the need for a pool of skilled manpower. The gap currently existing between the supply and ever increasing demand for skilled manpower, will only widen with this growth. T-TEP is a step towards bridging this gap. This specially designed course in body and paint repair would in turn create skilled technicians for the BP industry - a largely unorganized segment - of the automobile service industry”.TKM plans to introduce this program to technical institutes across the countries in the coming years and reach out to over 700 students per year. T-TEP is widely recognized across the globe for its effectiveness. The program has been successfully introduced in 53 countries by Toyota, which includes USA, Australia, Italy, South Africa, China, Vietnam and India.
