The world's best selling cars Toyota Matrix and Corolla are hounded with steering problems, say US safety officials. The 2009 and 2010 models of the vehicles have been proved hazardous by the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration which formally launched a probe on the basis of 168 complaints received from the owners.

Corolla owners alleged that in models 2009 through 2010, Toyota Corolla and Matrix vehicles electric power steering turned unresponsive or loose while driving at highway speeds.

The Toyota Corolla 2009 - 2010 models were a part of previous recall of Toyota Motors which stemmed from faulty accelerator pedal and braking problems. Toyota Motors has recalled about 8.5 million cars worldwide due to safety issues ranging from unintended acceleration to now uncontrolled steering. Toyota chief, Akio Toyoda will appear in front of a US congressional hearing on February 24.
Reportedly, the Japan transport ministry has added one more vehicle to the Toyota recall which is the 4,286 natural-gas powered Isuzu trucks from the Isuzu Motors, partly owned by Toyota. The recall of these trucks was announced in Japan on Friday. The trucks suffer from natural gas fuel leak that could result in fires in the cab. Toyota Motors has received 14 complaints in Japan about Isuzu trucks, including a case in which a man suffered minor burns after lighting a cigarette in the passenger's seat.
