Toyota to build Corollas at Mississippi from 2011
Toyota confirmed the news that was in the air for a while that the constructions will resume shortly. Toyota said that the constructions will resume and finish fast enough so that the manufacture of Corolla cars will be a possibility by 2011.
TOYOTA HAS stated that it will be building its Corollas in their Mississippi plant. It further states in its press release that it will start the manufacturing from 2011 in Mississippi. This news was embraced by local press and officials.
 
It should be noted that the said plant in Mississippi was under construction but was halted recently. Today, as the markets opened in the US, Toyota confirmed the news that was in the air for a while that the constructions will resume shortly. Toyota said that the constructions will resume and finish fast enough so that the manufacture of Corolla cars will be a possibility by 2011.
 
The Corolla cars are very popular in the US but were recalled due to technical glitches recently. Corollas will be assembled at Mississippi starting the fall of next year. That news is being praised by locals with reports that 2,000 new jobs will be created for the plant that is expected to build almost all Corollas sold for U.S. consumers.
 
In a statement to local news today, Yoshimi Inaba, president and operating chief of Toyota’s North America operations, said the following:
 
“Toyota appreciates the patience of Gov. [Haley] Barbour and all Mississippians, but we first needed to fully utilize our existing facilities as the economy slowed. Now it’s time to fulfil Toyota’s promise in Mississippi.”

Toyota confirms 60 employees are already employed at the plant which it describes as essentially complete.
