Tracing cultural footprints: Reinventing our own identity
With fast cosmopolitan life and career conscious individuals the concept of family is being reinvented in the backdrop of marriages where both the partners work. The pressure at the career front and sense of identity crisis add to the situation.
THE DYNAMICALLY changing social stoichiometry is gradually leading us to cultural homogeneity. With fast cosmopolitan life and career conscious individuals the concept of family is being reinvented in the backdrop of marriages where both the partners work. The pressure at the career front, struggle for individuality and sense of identity crisis all the factors add to the situation. It is all about striking a balance between career and home for both the partners. The pursuit of happiness is lost somewhere in the mechanised routine hectic schedule.

The problem deepens as new age marriages are more of adjustment, accommodating and compromising to the better half than of a cordial conjugal endeavour. Individuals with their own pattern beliefs and priorities just sharing a common space this is what marriage is all about. Be it love or arranged the shelf life of marriages has decreased significantly. Divorces, live-in-relationships, single living, single mother and commitment phobic youth are leading to a completely and complex social structure. Now caste, creed, culture and territory are merging as education takes upper hand in society. The contemporary society is evolving in a way it is good that people come out of prejudices and humanity seems to receive a common platform with inter-caste and inter-religion marriages.

The cultural diversity is at stake with the evolving society. The elaborate rites and rituals are now thought irrational and orthodox. But there is a scientific explanation to every little processes and protocol during social ceremony. The scientific mind of contemporary youth connects to the religious activity only after testing it on rational scale. In city life there is always a void deep in the core of our heart, it is an ardent urge to merge and connect to the roots as there is no future of a tree without roots however, big it grows.

The cultural diversity is at the heart of civilisation let our endeavours for career pursuit do not contaminate the sanctity of our revered past. It is really up on us to safe guard and follows the Indian school of thought of life marriage and livelihood.

The Western impact is viral and systemic, it has already damaged much. Let us firmly consolidate the spirit of cultural renaissance by reinventing our own identities.

I agree with the author on this. I think it is the crave for younger generation to live a glamorous and luxurious life which takes them away from the ground realities. And when they finally encounter the bitter truths of life, frustration reaches at its height!
