Trainee IAS officer dies while attempting to save lady officer from drowning
In a tragic incident, a young IFS officer was found dead in a swimming pool of Foreign Club Institute located in Ber Sarai area of south Delhi in the early hours of Tuesday.

The IFS officer belonged to J&K cadre and was on training prior to his posting.

The deceased officer has been identified as Ashish Dahiya who was a native of Sonipat, Haryana.

As per reports, Dahiya along with his colleagues was celebrating the last day of the training and late at night, had gone to the pool side along with others for a midnight swim. That is when a lady officer who was also attending the function accidentally slipped into the swimming pool and Dahiya along with a few others attempted saving her by jumping in the pool. Evidence has revealed that revelers had been consuming alcohol.

While the lady officer was pulled out safely, Dahiya went missing and was soon found floating and was pulled out. A medical officer was called and attempts were made to revive him. However,when the attempts to save him failed, he was rushed to the Fortis Hospital where he was declared brought dead.

Police are recording statements to ascertain the cause of the accident.A report in NDTV has said that the officer's family has demanded an independent investigation claiming that Dahiya was a good swimmer.

Before clearing IAS examination, Dahiya was serving as the Deputy Superintendent of Police in Himachal Pradesh.
