Training of special educators in pre-writing intervention for differently abled children held in Jaipur
A one-day training of 20 odd special educators was held on August 30 at Disha Foundation in Jaipur on a pre-writing skill intervention based on visual-motor development coupled with basic cognitive milestone development strategies.

A ten-page material using doodles with pattern decoration was introduced and modalities of transaction of learning sheets was discussed along with pedagogical under-scoring of the  intervention and learning by differently abled children was seen as micro-leaning steps  with movement  from unstructured experience to well-designed structured experience leading to learning and its practice.

“Initial experience of learners through their first learning task of the intervention should be treated as diagnosis to differentiate learning for subsequent tasks and record the process of the each child,” said the key resource trainer in the exposure session.

Another trainer, who had held the clinical trial of the intervention with 8 children with multiple disabilities, shared her experience and explained the progress made by each child. The efficacy of the intervention was analysed and three-step procedure consisting of demonstration-cum-modelling; guided practices and individual practice on each learning task lasting for one hour each. A 10-hour evidence-based well executed intervention shows positive results, it was told.

It was decided to have a verification testing of the intervention with induction training of five groups of learners with review sessions to standardise the intervention before institutionalising it. The institution is going to action plan for the verification stage through the support of the coordinator of Disha and the research unit.
