Training programme on winter cultivation
Assam Agriculture Research Centre with collaboration of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kokrajhar has organised a day long programme of training on winter cultivation. The programme was inaugurated the chief scientist Dr M N Rai.
A DAY long programme of training on winter cultivation was organised by Assam Agriculture Research Centre with collaboration of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kokrajhar. The programme was inaugurated by Dr M N Rai, chief scientist of the district Agriculture Research Centre, Kokrajhar, also attended the programme as the chief guest at conference hall.

Addressing the inaugural function, the chief guest spoke on the importance of the latest technology available with the research institutes in the field of agriculture and allied activities. On the same day, the chief guest also inaugurated the day long training programme on ‘Improved Agricultural Practices for Sustainable Agriculture’ with stress on winter cultivation for extension personnel’s from agriculture and allied departments.

Topics on system of rice intensification, integrated disease management and cultivation of winter vegetables were presented and discussed. Various farm implements such as ground nut decorticator, manually seeder and bullock drawn seeder was also exhibited and demonstrated.

A one day farmers’ scientist interaction programme was also organised at the village. The interaction programme was led by Dr Rai, programme coordinator of the research centre, Kokrajhar, where the farmers put forth their field level problems such as insects and disease incidence, low nutrient status of the soil etc in the field crops and also in vegetables. It was decided that the research centre would conduct demonstration programmes on insect and disease management in the farmers’ field.

The second session included, Vermi-composting, improved farm implements (drudgery reduction) and integrated farm development was conducted. Free rabi vegetable seeds were also distributed to the participating farmers to mark the occasion.

Demonstration on Bordeaux mixture preparation and application was conducted where details on its preparation and application was demonstrated. Guest delivered lecture on the package of practices with regard to cultivation of citrus.
