DWARKA, A sub city located in the South West Delhi district of National Capital Territory of Delhi is facing transport problems these days. The sub-city has a population of over 10 lakh people but the Delhi government has not provided any proper transport facility here.
The sub-city does not even have a single bus terminal. Reportedlly, the government is planni ng to come up with an interstate bus terminal at sector- 23, Dwarka, but so far no trace of ISBT is visble there. Another bus station at Madhu Vihar in sector-2 is also not very useful, as it lacks ample parking space for buses and other vehicles.
Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) has deployed about 2154 CNG buses for the city service and it has given 200 buses for the sub city but still these buses are unable to solve the transport problem. DTC Bus Route no 764 - the most frequent bus service to Dwarka is under constant scrutiny due to the poor condition of 764 buses, overcrowding of the blue line buses, longer route through Palam Village and negligence by the government to start a high capacity low floor Green/Red AC buses on the route.
DTC is operating interstate services in six states viz, Punjab, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Rajasthan. The corporation is operating at about 81 interstate routes. It seems like the corporation is more interested in providing an efficient, comfortable, reliable, economical and properly coordinated bus services to the commuters of adjoining states but it is not concerned about its own city’s transport problem.
Keeping in mind the vast area Delhi covers along with its National Capital Region territories, it is difficult to cater to everyone's needs. So efforts are being made to increase the frequency of bus service in the longer routes.
The day to day commuters in the city opine that DTC buses come after a duration. This leaves no choice for the commuters but to take blue line buses, which are famous for irresponsible driving and uncivilised staff.
Many are of the opinion that Delhi Metro has solved the transport problem of Dwarka but Metro has its stations only at sector - 9,10,11,12,13,14. But the main problem lies for the population of Dwarka Sec-1,6,7, these areas are surrounded by Mahavir Enclave, Palam and many other private residential colonies and the nearest metro station is three kilometers away.
Several commuters also face major troubles as there is no bus service from several parts of Dwarka to International Airport. The airport is not really far from the sub-city but due to lack of direct public transport, a lot of people have to suffer.
Despite the sub-city's international planning, wide roads and modern facilities equipped apartments, its residents face major trouble in carrying out day to day activities due to ignorance of government and MCD.
It's high time that Delhi government and DTC takes a positive action to uplift Dwarka's transport system.
