Tremors in AP opposition parties
The political tremors resulting from the elections, continue to rock Andhra Pradesh. Many political leaders who quit their parties are looking forward to rejoin the parties from which they had defected.
WELL AFTER the conclusion of assembly and parliamentary elections, the political tremors continue to be felt in Andhra Pradesh. The assembly elections were a bitter experience to the Praja Rajyam Party (PRP), which was established by cine star Chiranjeevi; he manged only 18 assembly seats whereas the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) manged 94 assembly seats. At the same time, the Congress won 158 seats and managed to hold on to its power in the state with a minimum margin of 11 seats. After these elections, leaders from the PRP are considering returning to the parties from which they had defected.

Tammineni Seetharam and Kala Venkata Rao of Srikakulam district and Ganababu of Vizag district, had joined the PRP before the elections from the Telugu Desam Party; they have expressed their desire to return to the TDP. Devender Goud from the TDP who had started his own party, the Nava Telangana Party (NTP) and later merged with the PRP and contested both assembly and parliament elections without success, is also looking to joining the TDP. Moreover, three days back, TDP supremo Chandrababu Naidu, invited former leaders to a meeting with his party leaders. In other developments, some TD MLAs are looking towards the Congress. Prasanna Kumar Reddy, TD MLA from Kovuru, has raised his tone with the party chief and has expressed his dissatisfaction with Chandrababu Naidu; it appears that he may join the Congress. Other leaders from the PRP have also expresed their desire to quit the party and are waiting to rejoin their own parties like the Congress and the TDP.

It had been reported that the TDP high command has alerted its cadre and asked them not to leave the party. But recently, as many as 12 members from the Adilabad zilla parishad quit the TD and joined the Congress. Some rebel leaders of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) have also signalled that they wish to quit the party and they have sought the permission of YS Rajasekhara Reddy to join the Congress.
