Twelve children are facing the charge of waging war against the government in Koraput, Orissa. They have been in confinement for months without even knowing their crime. The youngest among these is 12 years old and is yet to see a juvenile court.
MORE THAN fifteen tribal children have been confined in Koraput jail, out of which 12 kids are facing charges of conspiracy to wage war against the Government (Under Section 120B).
The police picked these children from their villages after the firing on 20th November 2009 and initiated cases against them. Kondagiri Penta s/o K Valasa, Himirika Mandamma s/o Nirpa, Puvalu Malathi s/o Sitayya, Mandingi Sima s/o Dalayya, Puvala Tamanna s/o Arjun and Puvala Bheema s/o Sitayya are from Jangidivalsa, Sanjib Nachika s/o Rupna, Wadeka Bijay s/o Sharadha, Narsingh Wadeka s/o Palsu are from Podapadar, Sisir Wangduka s/o Himdianga from Domsil, Kumbra Hazanka s/o Ghasi from Konkar, Tama Nachika s/o Salup from Bhaliaput. This villages fall in Narayanpatna Block of Koraput District. The children do not know what they are inside the Jail for, 12 year old Bheema, who is in the Juvenile home at Berhampur has not even once been produced at the juvenile court. This is so because the Chief Judicial Magistrate is still at Jeypore said Advocate V.V. Balakrishna. Balakrishna took up the case of these children when it became apparent that there was no body to stand up for them. Even their parents won’t claim them for fear of the police. No social activists, intellectuals or media has come forward to help these children.
