Tribal man killed by Maoists
One tribal middle-aged man Gangadhar Challan of Attalaguda under the Madakapadar panchayat of Khairpur was killed in a brutal manner by Maoists in Odisha.

THE TRIBAL Gangadhar Challan was killed in the Khairpur block in Malkangiri district . He was killed brutally last night by Maoists who suspected him of being a police informer. The victim was called out from his house, and was killed in the presence of his family members, sources said. This incident took place on the same day, Friday, July 6 as Prakash Mishra took charge as new Odisha Director General Of Police (D.G.P) replacing Monmahan Paharaj.

There have been a slew of such killings by the Maoists in the recent past - especially in the last 6-8 months. Killing so-called informers by Maoists is a defensive tactic on their part to stave off future police attacks.

The Maoists are trying to survive a re-invigorated state police by taking recourse to killing suspected informers. They try to send out a clear message that police informers will be treated brutally, but apparently this might be scaring people but it is not leading to a desired effect.
