A TROPICAL cyclone has reportedly formed in the Northern Indian ocean and according to forecasts, would approach south eastern India by Sunday, December 13. The cyclone, which is being referred to as Tropical Storm 05B has formed out of system 96B and is expected to touch land by Monday.
On Friday, December 11, the Tropical Storm at 15:00 UTC (10 a.m. ET or 8 p.m. local Asia/ Kolkata time in Chennai, India), Tropical Storm 05B had maximum sustained winds at nearly 40 mph. It was first observed 370 nautical miles south East of Chennai, India, near 9.3 North latitude and 85.1 East longitude.
On Saturday, December 12, the Tropical Storm 05B was observed is in an area of low wind shear, so it can be expected to continue to intensify. The thing that might deviate its path could be a strong zonal jet stream over central India, but forecasters expect that to lift towards the north in the next two days and that means Tropical Storm 05B can strengthen. It is also projected to turn west in the Bay of Bengal and make landfall in the state of Tamil Nadu by December 14.
