An able Guru - Master - is centered in own Self to work as an example or role model of divine life. He or she facilitates the seeker to embark a journey by sharing knowledge about true self and ultimate purpose of human existence.

One attains Gurudom by realizing the self and acquiring a state of equanimity and tranquillity. He awakens the quest for quest for a divine life to be acquired by self-knowledge.

In other words, Guru guides or directs your inward journey and sets you free to follow the path of self-realisation on your own.
