Trump agrees to meet with North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un
This news might surprise you but this is true: Tables are being prepared for the meeting between two arch rivals - North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and President of the United States Donald Trump.

Kim Jong-un has written a letter to Donald Trump inviting him for a face-to-face meeting on denuclearization, according to diplomatic sources. Donald Trump has reportedly said that he is going to accept the invitation.

The announcement made by senior South Korean officials in Washington including South Korean National Security Adviser Chung Eui-yong also said that the North Korean leader has agreed to put on hold nuclear and missile tests for the time being. But North Korea is yet to make any official announcement on the issue.

But even though official announcements were yet to be made, Trump confirmed the meeting being planned. Calling it 'great progress', Donald Trump wrote on Twitter, "Kim Jong Un talked about denuclearization with the South Korean Representatives, not just a freeze. Also, no missile testing by North Korea during this period of time. Great progress being made but sanctions will remain until an agreement is reached. Meeting being planned!"

As per a report in CNBC, a South Korean envoy personally delivered the invitation to Donald Trump at his office.

The development comes after the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games were recently held in South Korea where North Korea's presence was greatly valued. This was followed by talks between a South Korean delegation and Kim Jong.

Whether the meeting will happen or not and whether it will result in anything substantial or not, remains to be seen but the meeting, if it happens, will be a historic moment as no sitting president of the United States has ever met a North Korean leader. And even if the meeting just opens the doors for normalising the ties between the two countries, it will be considered as a great leap forward.
