Very few people would dare to question Singh about his passion while representing the nation. His passion was on full display during yesterday's match. He finished with impressive figures, claiming 3 wickets, and bowling two maidens in his 4 overs, conceding just 12 runs. No one would have guessed his fairy tale comeback to the Indian team.
It was not about the wickets that he took, but the manner in which he claimed them was important. He also bowled more slower in the air, which was missing from his trajectory when he was out of form. He displayed his experience in the game by changing the pace as per the requirement and dismissing batsmen by foxing them through the air as well as the track.
The English are not such good players while dealing with spinners. So, this match alone isn't a yard stick for measuring a successful comeback. He needs to prove this day in and day out against teams such as Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Australia, which are good players of spin bowling. The result of the match was not that important in the context of the T20 World Cup, so the English team also took it easy, which later hit them back. With the competition moving on towards the business end, players need to come up with top notch performances, as a mistake here and there could make a difference between a loss and a victory. But take nothing away from the Indian spinner, who was under lots of pressure to perform and push the selectors in choosing him ahead of Ashwin.
With India into the super eights, depending upon the circumstances and the pitch conditions, the team would be fielded. As of now, Ashwin is the first choice when a sole spinner has to be picked. There are very less chances that two spinners would be chosen for the surprising bounce that the pitches has been offering. But, in case, the pitch assists spinners, Singh should be chosen along with Ashwin.
