Two-day training on study skills for classroom instructors of secondary schools held in Jaipur
A two-training on study skills for classroom instructors of secondary schools of Niwai block of Tonk district of Rajasthan was held on August 26 and 27. The training was organised by the Centre for Unfolding Learning Potentials (CULP) in Jaipur which is working on alternative education methods. The training was meant to combine three roles of teachers such as classroom instructor, facilitator and coach.

The training, attended by eleven participants, started with a discussion on self study skills and coaching role of teacher for week students. The discussion resulted in a framework for removing difficulties of students through a curriculum based on the list of hard spots of learning in different subjects. The modalities of the transaction of such curriculum were worked out to improve the achievement levels of in the board examination of class X rural students.

On the first day of the training, three read-to-learn skills were taken up. The participants learnt the out-lining skill, noun-words web charting skill and nouns-verbs linking skills after reading the textual material. The training sessions were held through three stage activities passing through demonstration-cum-demystification stage to guided training stage and discussion on the skill to see its advantages.

On the second day of training, the three sessions were held and higher order study skills, namely, creating graphic like concept matrix and Venn diagram; linear and cyclic flow charts and table charts were taken up. The participants agreed that such techniques of study will empower students to prepare their own revision materials. The examination skills through diagnostic, remedial and mock examination interventions will help students to face public examination with confidence.
