TWO SUSPECTED Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists were arrested by Delhi police on Thursday night. The duo arrested from the Daryaganj area in Old Delhi were planning to strike in the city ahead of Independence Day. Special cell police arrested Javed Ahmed and Ashiq Ali, when they were moving around in a Santo car. Arms and ammunition was also recovered from them; the stash was hidden under the back seat of the car.
Police said that two hand grenades, two AK-47 rifles, 120 rounds of ammunition and some other material were recovered from the HM suspects. Police are questioning the duo about their plans and about any local contacts who might have helped them.
The arrest of the two terror suspects comes in the wake of heightened security in the national capital ahead of August 15 Independence celebrations. Authorities have stepped up security and adequate measures are being put in place to prevent any terror strike. Earlier in June, a special cell of the Delhi police managed to arrest Omar Madni, a Lashkar-e-Toiba operative, who was asked to recruit young boys for the purpose of carrying out terror attacks.
