Two major aviation mishaps averted in Delhi and Goa
Two major mishaps involving aircrafts, one in Delhi and another in Goa were averted earlier today. At Delhi's Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport, an Indigo aircraft had a close shave with a SpiceJet aircraft on the runway.
"An Indigo flight 6C-729, which was coming from Lucknow to Delhi with 176 passengers on board, post landing on the taxi-way saw a SpiceJet aircraft in front of it," an Indigo spokesperson Ajay Jesra told IANS.

The spokesperson also said that the matter has been reported to Air Traffic Control (ATC) and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has ordered a probe into the incident.

While in Goa, a Jet Airways flight skidded off the runway. Onboard the aircraft were 154 passengers and 7 crew members. The Jet Airways flight, 9W 2374, which had arrived from Dubai and was bound for Mumbai, was about to take off when it skidded off the runway.

The aircraft tilted forward while the evacuation process was on resulting in a panic among passengers. As per reports, 15 people have suffered minor injuries and fractures in the process. Since the Goa airport is located in Indian Navy's facility, Navy's assistance in the evacuation process was crucial.

"The Navy responded within 15-20 minutes and all the passengers were evacuated safely out of the aircraft. It would have turned into a catastrophe had the Navy not acted promptly," a Naval spokesperson said.

In a statement, Jet Airways said, "Few guests have sustained minor injuries during the evacuation process and medical assistance is being coordinated by the Jet Airways team and the airport authorities."

Reportedly, the Goa runway which had been closed for operations, has been re-opened and operational.
