Two women crushed to death in stampede at Barsana temple
On the occasion of Radhashtami, the birthday of Radha Rani, at least two women devotees were crushed to death and half a dozen others were injured in a stampede at the Radha Rani temple at Barsana town in Mathura district of UP on September 23.

ON RADHASHTAMI, lakhs of devotees had gathered at this famous Radha temple to celebrate the festival. The tragedy struck early morning arti at the exit gate of the temple.

Every year, the Radha Rani temple attracts lakhs of devotees from the country and abroad on the occasion of Radhashtami festival. The temple, also known as Barsaana Ki Laadli Ka Mandir, is located in the middle of a mountain, looking like a gem from distance.

Barsaana is the birthplace of Radha Rani and the temple was built with red and yellow stones dedicated to Radha by King Veer Singh.

On the occasion of Radhashtami, the deity is offered 56 food-offerings. Specially made ladoos are distributed in the form of Prasaad to the devotees immersed in devotional songs in praise of the divine love between Radha and Krishna. Ladoos are also offered to peacocks on this day in and around the temple.
