Two women marry as New York accepts gay marriages
New York City became the sixth US state to accept gay marriage on Sunday. Already the online applications request for marriage licence are pouring in the NYC's clerk office.

TWO WOMEN in New York City solemnized the first same sex marriage under the new law of New York state that allows same-sex marriages. They became popular with this step and many media outlets reported the marriage. Phyllis Siegal, 77, and Connie Kopelov, 85 entered matrimony, before a city official in the presence of many onlookers who cheered the couple.

Sunday was the day when the state's Marriage Equality Act took effect, and these ladies were among the lucky people who won a ticket to tie the knot. Talking about the reunion, city clerk Michael McSweeney, who married the couple, said, “These are two independent people who are joining together because they can see and they can feel how much better their lives will be.

The couple had a wonderful love story but due to laws of the state they could not legalise their love. They are together for 23 years and finally they got the opportunity to celebrate their lucky day with everyone. Kopelov left the clerk’s office in a wheelchair after signing the dotted lines.

After this day, the New York City clerk's office has seen an enormous number of marriage application request. The marriage application requests were as many as 2600 and the tag on the online application was changed from 'Groom and Bride' to 'Spouse A and Spouse B. As many as 764 couples, gay or straight, were chosen in random to receive marriage licence at city clerk’s offices on Sunday.

According to records, New York became the sixth state after Massachusetts, Connecticut, Iowa, Vermont and New Hampshire to legally accept gay marriage. It is a milestone in the history of the modern era.
