THE REMOVAL of paper manuals is part of Ubisoft's effort to create more environmentally friendly packaging for future video game releases. The DVD cases of PC games made with 100 percent recycled polypropylene will be released by the publishers on April 27.
French publisher Ubisoft said that it will stop using the paper manual inside the video game boxes as an environment friendly move. Ubisoft's video games for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 will soon have instruction manuals included digitally on the game disc instead of the paper manuals in the box. The new initiative can be first found in the game called Shaun White Skateboarding. It also believes that the step taken is not only eco friendly but also makes it easier for the gamers to have an easy access to information.
Data revealed that for one ton of paper used in the game manuals, nearly thirteen trees were felled down producing greenhouse gases equivalent of 6000 lsb of Carbon dioxide.Besides a lot of water was also being consumed.
The step taken by Ubisoft is not only in line with the forthcoming Earth Day but is bound to inspire many others. This initiative is expected to decrease the production cost for the company. However, the cost for consumers will remain the same.
