UGC favours creating knowledge systems in institutions rather than instructional systems
According to the chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Ved Prakash, there is a need to make a shift towards knowledge systems from the instructional systems being used currently.

KNOWLEDGE SYSTEMS require combining research, teaching and dissemination of knowlede, said Prakash at the recently concluded staff training programme of the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU).

IGNOU had organized a 21-day refresher programme in distance education in New Delhi. On the valedictory of the refresher programme, M. Aslam, Vice Chancellor of IGNOU, said, “There is a need to overcome the barriers that have been created between the conventional and distance education systems, which are in fact complementary to each other,” reported the Hindu.

In fact, knowledge systems and management (KSM) comprises a range of systemic provisions and stabilization of the strategies to identify, create, represent and disseminate the experiences and knowledge generated thereof.

KSM efforts are meant to improve performance, encourage innovations, support research and dissemination of knowledge and lessons learned from the organizational efforts along with a continuous systemic improvement through formative organizational evaluation.
