UIDAI generates 2 crore Aadhaar numbers in October
The UID project is going great guns, as the month of October saw around 2 crore Aadhaar numbers generated by UIDAI. The project was launched on September 2010.

THE UNIQUE Identity project that had been initiated by Nandan Nilekani, has been a huge success after it was first introduced in September 2010. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has been able to successfully generate 2 crore Aadhaar numbers during the month of October, 2011.

The UID project issues the citizen of the country a 12-digit identity number, which is known as Aadhaar. It has been a year or so that the project has been launched, where 59.6 million Aadhaar numbers  have already been generated, as reported by The Times of India. It took just three months for the project to reach its one million mark. Surely in the near future, all residents of the country would be obtaining their Unique Identification Number.

The UID is said to benefit many a citizens of the country. It is a valid proof of one’s identity. It is commonly accepted all over the country, irrespective of the state where one belongs. With the development of such an ID, we may see a decrease in the number of fake ID cards that is produced in the country, which has been used for wrong reasons by many a people. It would also be helpful for the poor people of the country as they would be reaping benefits from the various welfare schemes of the country, when announced.

Citizens possessing the Aadhaar number can be easily authenticated online too, which makes it easier for verification. Now, it would be easier for people to get sim cards and open a new bank account in the state they work, as the UID would add up as a valid document. Earlier, people who did not work in their hometown faced problems as they needed a proper permanent resident proof to purchase a sim card, but these hassles would be taken care of by the UID number itself.
