THE DEPUTY head of UK Trade and Investment, India (UKTI), Northern Region, (British High Commission, New Delhi), Jane Sanders, had preliminary discussions for investment with Rajasthan State Industrial Development and Investment Corporation's (RIICO) chairman, Sunil Arora and the managing director, Rajeeva Swarup. The main focus of the meeting was exploring opportunities for investment in Rajasthan. Sanders informed that UKTI is a government organisation that help United Kingdom based companies succeed in the global economy and also assists overseas companies to bring their high quality investment to the United Kingdom.

RIICO's chairman, Sunil Arora, informed Sanders that Rajasthan in terms of industrial relations had an excellent track record and the political climate too was conducive and stable for investment. Furthermore, a substantial part of Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) will be passing through Rajasthan.

The chairman said that RIICO would be able to proactively assist the companies in the UK for investment in Rajasthan. He also added that the corporation could also facilitate a cluster or sectoral approach for setting up a group of industries. The same had been done for Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO) at Neemrana on NH8. Arora also suggested that the SEZs in Rajasthan could also be a viable opportunity for investment by the UK companies. The auto sector was yet another area suitable for investment in the state, Arora informed.

RIICO's managing director, Rajeeva Swarup also pointed out opportunities for investment in the sector of higher education, health care and engineering. He said that RIICO would coordinate with UKTI for further exploration and facilitate arrangements for organising a seminar with other organisations, if required.

Sanders expressed satisfaction at the meeting and said that UKTI would be reverting soon for next steps pertaining to UK companies exploring Rajasthan as an investment destination.

RIICO's general manager (business promotion), Alok Kumar was also present in the meeting.
