UK woman found with 27 contact lenses in one eye and she didn't know about it!
She wanted a simple cataract removal surgery but as she visited the doctor, she received the shock of her life. The doctors told her that they had found 27 contact lenses in her eye.

The surgeons of Solihull Hospital, during an examination, described it as a "bluish foreign mass".

As per reports, the 67-year-old British woman had surprisingly not complained of any problems relating to her contact lenses so far.

SFGate quoted Rupal Morjaria, a specialist trainee ophthalmologist as saying, "It was such a large mass — all the 17 contact lenses were stuck together. We were really surprised that the patient didn't notice it because it would cause quite a lot of irritation while it was sitting there."

After finding 17 contact lenses glued together in her eye, the doctors put the woman under further examination. On examining her eyes with a microscope, they discovered 10 more contact lenses in her eye.

As per reports, such a large number of contact lenses in her eye were most probably because of the disposable contact lenses that she had been using. The woman had been using disposable contact lenses that last for a month and had been continuing this practice for the last 35 years.

The doctors reportedly decided to publish the case in order to make the public aware of the consequences of wearing disposable contact lenses. The case was published in the British Medical Journal.

Wearing contacts lenses for too long can cause corneal damage. This is why even the FDA recommends that in order to allow the eye to take oxygen, even the long-term contact lenses should ideally be removed overnight at least once a week. Contact lenses have also been reported to be the reason behind infections and sometimes the cause behind people losing their eyesight.
