UN stresses need for world order based on principles of international law; equal and indivisible security for all countries
This year the theme of World Migratory Bird Day, May 10, is "Protect Birds: Be the Solution to Plastic Pollution!" to put the spotlight on the impact of plastic pollution on migratory birds and their habitats. The UN has stressed the need to spread the word and support local and global action against excessive, unnecessary use and detrimental disposal of plastic.

The world community observed the event of "Time of Remembrance and Reconciliation for Those Who Lost Their Lives during the Second World War" each year on 8-9 May. The UN has stressed the need for establishing a world order based on the principles of international law and equal and indivisible security for all countries.

The UN General Assembly has declared 8-9 May for paying tribute to all victims of the Second World War and strengthen the initiatives for the world peace. The UN has 'called upon the Member States of the United Nations to unite their efforts in dealing with new challenges and threats, with the United Nations playing a central role, and to make every effort to settle all disputes by peaceful means in conformity with the Charter of the United Nations and in such a manner that international peace and security are not endangered.'

According to the UN, the Second World War was 'one of the most epic struggles for freedom and liberation in history' whose 'cost was beyond calculation, beyond comprehension: 40 million civilians dead; 20 million soldiers, nearly half of those in the Soviet Union alone.'

The UN  observes, "We cannot forget the worst crime of the Nazis, which was of course the Holocaust; it was possible for the Soviet troops still to release a few; unfortunately, the overwhelming majority of the Jews and others has been killed.  And again, it is interesting to see how hatred, anti-Semitism and other forms of hatred, even anti-Muslims hatred etc, are still again proliferating in the world."
