THE UNITED Nations has appealed for an aid of nearly US $460 million to provide immediate help to millions of the flood victims in Pakistan. In one of the biggest ever natural disaster in Pakistan, about 1,500 people were killed and an estimated 7 million people were badly affected.

The United States increased its flood relief assistance in Pakistan to $71 million on Wednesday and said more helicopters were on way to help provide relief and rescue services to thousands of victims of the unprecedented natural calamity in the country.
On July 29, flash floods and landslides caused by monsoon rains hit northwestern Pakistan. Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari, who has been criticized for travelling to Europe, today made his first visit to flood-hit areas when he travelled to Sukkur.
Pakistani Army is working day and night to rescue people along with distributing drinking water, food, medical aid and repairing bridges and roads. In some parts of the country, food prices went up 300% due to the damage to crops, roads and bridges.
