Nagpur District Tennis Association promised Nagpur Improve Trust to develop the nearby area of Nagpur District Tennis Association through gardening, plantation and much more. But the body failed to do so.
INDIA GOT the chance to conduct the XIX Commonwealth Games, and for the sake of this mega event the whole of Indian capital was develped and government of India spent a lot of money on modernisation and infrastructure.
But this is just one side of the coin, there is another side of sports in our country that is exemplified by the case of Nagpur District Tennis Association (NDTA).
Nagpur District Tennis Association courts at Ram Nagar in Nagpur were constructed on the land of Nagpur Improvement Trust few years ago. Nagpur District Tennis Association had promised Nagpur Improvement Trust that area near the courts would be developed through gardening, plantation and much more. But the body failed to do so. As a result the Nagpur Improvement Trust locked down the premises. Due to this action most of the players have stopped practice and coach Rajesh Mishra is upset by problems being faced by the upcoming players.
Mishra said, "As a coach it is tough for me to redevelop the game in the city like Nagpur. But I am doing my job." When we asked about Nagpur Improvement Trust, he said, "Improvement is the main motive of Nagpur Improvement Trust, but what they did with us? We are not asking them about the same place but it is their responsibility to allot us an option." Talking about the young players, he said, "I had 140 students last year but after this incident now I have exactly the half." He said, "Some parents came forward and helped us a lot. Even RTPS also supported us by providing their own courts." Amidst all this, where is development? Where are sports? Where is the future of tennis in Nagpur? Nobody has the answer of these questions.
