Understanding Indian Cognitive Psychology
Cognitive psychology pertains to the study of the thinking and remembering as functions of mind. Recognising, naming, recalling, understanding, analysing, synthesising are considered to be the components of the western cognitive psychology.

However, as I have been able to understand, Indian Cognitive Psychology (ICP) lays stress on the processes of formation of mind and its development through linking sensual and mental experiences with thinking tools of recognition, formation of mental images, sequencing, patterning, comparing, classifying, categorising, detailing, relating, discerning, valuing, self-reflection, self-improvement and existentialism.

The ICP treats senses as gateways to knowledge through mental effort and shuns the gratification of senses or their slavery. This aspect of ICP is very important since it is believed that the mind is formed through training and education of the senses, which has also been validated by studies in neuroscience.

Unfortunately, this part of education which is the part of upbringing has got neglected due consumerism and materialism which emphasises gratification and pampering of senses and pacification of children externalisation rather than consciously engaging senses for learning and appropriate habits formation.

Moreover, ICP looks at education for thinking in two parts called knowledge of various disciplines and world or Shiksha and self-knowledge or Vidya leading to liberation.

Thus, the ICP-based education leads children from training of senses to learning various subjects with thinking tools to discerning and values-orientation to self-knowledge to liberation. It does not subscribe for mechanical processes, comfort seeking, external motivation and short cuts.

The three highest cognitive levels in ICP are the self-reflection, self-improvement and self-realization, I gather.
