Understanding Koda: Construction worker to minister
According to reports, he had started his own business in illegal mining, before he entered politics and joined the RSS and the BJP. Later, he quit the BJP and rose to become the Chief Minister of Jharkhand.

THE FORMER Chief minister of Jharkhand, Madhu Koda, who began his career as a humble construction worker in a mine, had over the years, developed contacts with the mining mafia, which does illegal business in the mining resources rich state.

According to reports, he had started his own business in illegal mining, before he entered politics and joined the RSS and the BJP. Later, he quit the BJP and rose to become the Chief Minister of Jharkhand.
 
He earned thousands of crores from the illegal mining business and also earned a lot of money by making false recommendations to the Centre about the applications of businessmen for mining.
 
Now, investgations into the mining scam have shown that he reportedly paid Naxals protection money of about Rs 1,000 crores so he could conduct his illegal mining business in the Naxal dominated areas.
