Understanding life as a pilgrimage within and realise life's purpose
In many religious practices and spiritualism, pilgrimage is viewed as a journey to shrines or religious places to seek solitude to self-discover or be in the company of the wise in search of purpose of life.

Osho views life as a spiritual journey, a pilgrimage of being human and reverence for all life, and puts forth, "Life's aim is life itself – more life, deeper life, higher life, but life always. There is nothing higher than life. And a reverence for life is a necessary corollary. If life's aim is life, then reverence for life becomes your religion. Then respect other people's life. Don't interfere in anybody's life, don't try to force somebody to follow a certain path that you think is right."

According to Abraham Joshua Heschel, "Faith is not the clinging to a shrine but an endless pilgrimage of the heart."  In other words, pilgrimage is not a mere journey to a shrine but a metaphorical journey into someone's inner self.

If human life is meant to discover life itself and realise its purpose, it can be treated as journey to arrive at a destination as a pilgrimage.  As Banani Ray in 'Glory of OM: A Journey to Self-Realization' puts it rightly, "Life is a pilgrimage. Each moment is to be lived in depth, because each moment contains God, hidden within it."

Also, LM Browning, in his work "Seasons of Contemplation: A Book of Midnight Meditations" writes,  "The purpose of a pilgrimage is about setting aside a long period of time in which the only focus is to be the matters of the soul. Many believe a pilgrimage is about going away but it isn't; it is about coming home."

Here are my haiku on pilgrimage.

Pilgrimage transforms -  / converts outward journey to / one that is inward.

Shed all bondages / empty out contents of your mind / become light – nothing.

Travel light, be wise / feel life as a bundle of breath / and stay with your breath

Rid of all that's known / turn inward to the unknown - / that is limitless

Physical living - / It's bound by body and mind, / get free, be pilgrim

For inward journey / transcend your limitations. / Break free and tread on.

Life is an event / Feel it happening, live it, / flow with it freely.

Cleanse thoughts and actions  / Pure mind is lightest baggage /  For a pilgrimage.

Simple living, clean mind / with pure thoughts, words and feelings / is real pilgrimage

Be not a tourist / neither be a traveller / be pilgrim of life
