Understanding loneliness psychologically and spiritually
In psychology, loneliness is viewed as an unpleasant emotional response of a person to isolation and marginalisation and is marked with feelings of being devalues and loss of connection or communication with others.

It has been found that loneliness can also be felt even when surrounded by other people or in crowd because social, mental, emotional, and physical distancing.

Often people feel lonely due to a breakup, divorce, insulting behaviour, hatred, sadness or loss of any important long-term relationship.

However, spirituality sees loneliness as the loss of connects with the inner-self. It is seen as enslaving by the mind to be dependent on others for gratification. By being in company with the inner-self, one can never feel lonely, say spiritualists.

Here is a non-poem to explain loneliness:

Our mind's dependence -
On others,
Our mind's attachments
To others
For things we get from them -
Makes us lonely.

The desire
To seek others
Is the cause of loneliness –
A desire-trap is loneliness.

Our desires,
Our mind's kicks –
Play tricks on us
To block our contact
With our inner-self
Wherein all loneliness dissolves.
