Uneasy lies the head that aspires to wear the crown
In one of my previous article, captioned as "Iron Lady of BJP", I had included an IRONY (as the English Grammar says) "there is no harm if you were smart to call once world's biggest airlines BOAC as 'Better On A Camel' or PIA as 'Please Inform Ayubkhan." It elaborates the understanding and opinions about different evaluations of one personality simultaneously and at different times by different individuals or groups.

Kiran Bedi has been profusely praised by Mr. Shanti Bhushan in the finest words. "It is a masterstroke by the BJP to bring Kiran Bediji and declare her the party's CM candidate. The BJP recognized the force of Anna Hazare's andolan and was forced to bring as CM candidate a crusader against corruption. She will provide clean and effective administration. This [AAP] is a party which was born out of a crusade against corruption, so if a member [Kiran Bedi] becomes the chief minister, it's a reason to be happy."

There was a rider with his statement about her fighting as AAP candidate which has been there on TV channels. Prashant Bhushan, the AAP leader and lawyer of repute, has distanced himself from his father's remark saying he didn't agree with his father. Kejriwal brushed it aside as an expression of internal democracy of his party.

Now, let us look back at Shri Shanti Bushan's glittering record as minister and a lawyer as well. He is a former Law Minister of India 1977 to 1979 in the Morarji Desai Ministry and a senior advocate of the SCI. The ministry of Morarji had collapsed like house of cards before you say presto.

In 1994, Shanti Bhushan had appeared for two of the defendants accused of participating in the 1993 Mumbai Bomb Blast Case.

Shanti Bhushan had appeared as senior counsel for 'Transparency International' in the 'Provident Fund Scandal Case' of Ghaziabad, which allegedly involved several judges of the Indian judiciary. The bench abandoned the hearing after deeming his remarks as contemptuous and termed his behavior as that of a street urchin.

The great lawyer had represented 'Shaukat Hussain Guru' in 2008 for an appeal against his 10-year conviction for his role in the 2001 Indian Parliament Attack.

In 2002, he had appeared as a counsel for Arundhiti Roy in a contempt case against her in the Supreme Court of India.

In arguing for the above cases, and many more similar ones in natue, what points and conclusions he would have drawn, could be even a layman's guess.

I respect his professional integrity but being an Indian citizen it is difficult to say ditto to his discretions.

Here is paragraph from my article:

"Most glaring story of her (Kiran Bedi) bright career, as the DCP North in 1988, she got into a major problem with Tis Hazari Lawyers. A committee headed by Justice Wadhwa, then a sitting judge of the Delhi High Court, passed severe strictures against her. The judge also questioned her credentials and she virtually accused of hatching a conspiracy with a Congress Corporator. It was alleged that she also used some criminals so that they could attack the lawyers demanding her ouster."

And here is the important news from Tis Hazari Lawyers today:

The All Delhi Bar Association coordination committee, upset over a lathi-charge ordered 27 years ago against lawyers protesting the arrest of one of their colleague declared "the legal fraternity in no circumstances shall ever accept Bedi as chief minister of Delhi and therefore has decided to burn her effigy."

AS the effigy of Kiran burns on the street of Delhi, many dogmas and myths will also be singed. According to the statement, when Bedi was chief commissioner of police in North Delhi, she did "everything to take avenge from lawyers of Tis Hazari court who were demanding commission of enquiry against brutal 'lathi' charge on innocent lawyers".

So, uneasy lies the head that wears the crown, but there is lot of uneasiness even before you aspire for the crown.
