AFTER TEMPERS started running high between the BJP and the Shiv Sena in Aurangabad recently, the BJP is in for yet another jolt with its alliance. The saffron party has an alliance with Janata Dal – United the JD-U in Bihar.
It is in power with Nitish Kumar as the Chief Minister of the state. In 2008, there were major floods in Bihar that caused devastation on a large scale. Villages were washed out completely and there was no help in sight for many days. Various NGOs did their bit by helping out as much as they could.
Among those who helped was the Chief Minister of Gujarat Narendra Modi. Modi had paid Rs. 5 crore as a relief package to the ravaged state. However, Nitish Kumar ‘promptly’ ‘refunded’ the amount back to Gujarat. Nitish Kumar was shown holding hands with Modi in some ads in the newspapers in Bihar. Kumar was upset over this, as the pictures were used without his consent. He was also asked about Modi’s claim that Gujarat had helped Bihar in the worst-ever floods, Kumar shot back saying all the money would be returned with interest. However, the JD-U President, Sharad Yadav made it clear that the alliance in Bihar is in no danger.
