UNICEF organized workshop on draft Bihar State Policy for Children 2014 in Patna
"Every child has the right to life,survival,development,education,protection and participation.This consultation workshop has been organized for the compilation of the draft on suggestions of officers of department of social welfare,health officers, social activists, representatives of NGOs and media persons."said Imamuddin Ahmad,director,Social Welfare Department in the consultative workshop with stakeholders on the Draft Bihar State Policy for Children-2014 at Hotel Maurya in Patna on January 23.

" Every child is unique and supremely important to the nation.All children have the right to grow in a family environment in an atmosphere of happiness,love and understanding.The Government of India adopted the National Policy for  Children on 26 April 2013.The Government of Bihar herby adopts this resolution on Bihar State Policy for Children-2014.Bihar would be the first state in the country to make state policy for child empowerment by protecting their rights."said Nirupanh Gupta communication specialist of UNICEF,Bihar in the consultation workshop in Patna.

"India is home to the largest child population in the world.the state of Bihar has the second child population (0-6 years) among all India states,accounting for 12 per cent of the child population of Indian the age group of (0-6 years.Almost 46 parcent of Bihar population is aged less than 18 years." said Shailesh P. Nayak,UNICEF policy and Project specialist in the program.

UNICEF Bihar and Social Welfare Department Patna jointly organized one day consultation workshop with stakeholders on Bihar State Policy for Children-2014 at Kautilya Hall,Hotel Maurya in Patna.Senior officers of department  of social welfare, health, education, CID and representatives of  NGOs, Bihar Bal Bhawan Kilkari, BACS and media participated in this program. 

Mansur Kadri child protection specialist of UNICEF Bihar presented introduction about the objectives of  consultation,background, rationale and progress etc after the introduction with the participants.

Shailesh P. Nayak,UNICEF policy and Project specialist highlighted draft of Bihar State Policy for Children-2014 by Power Point presentation in the workshop to the participants. Poonam Sharma, program manager of State Child Rights Protection Committee,Patna delivered vote of thanks in the program.

All participants were divided into four groups for discussion during the workshop.These groups were (1) Survival,health and nutrition,(ii) Education and development ,(iii) Protection and (iv) Participation. After the theme wise group discussion on the draft Bihar State Policy for Children-2014 Nirupanh Gupta communication specialist of UNICEF,Bihar,Jagjeet Kaur Ghai, assistant director of social welfare department,Patna,Bin Chacko,program manager of World Vision India, Bihar branch,Raj Kumar DSP CID, Sanat Sinha secretary of Bal Sakha,,Akash Kumar and Priyamvada Bharati of Bihar Bal Bhawan Kilkari,Piyush Kumar of Save the Children,Nand Kishor Prasad Singh,Sunil Jha ,UNICEF consultant and officers of different government departments and  representatives of different NGOs and media gave valuable suggestions for the empowerment of children for healthy and happy Bihar.
