The question is why is this situation not happening?

All concerned including all political parties must come to a consensus whereby every effort should be made to make every district and village enjoy good electricity. The three main issues creating bottlenecks on this front are:

Whatever electricity is produced doesn’t get evenly distributed due to pilferage and loss sustained while transmission.

On environmental standards, coal based generating power is not taking off in a big way. India is having huge coal deposits; I understand there are technologies available to upgrade or better the quality of coal output. There are also technologies available to reduce or eliminate the problems of environmental hazards due to coal based electricity production.

Electricity generating business is one of those businesses where ‘investment for profit’ takes a long gestation period. Some solutions offered with narrations:

Having 24 hours uninterrupted electricity can solve many of the health problems in the country helping the average person live a better, longer and healthier life. Definite improvements are assured on the following through uninterrupted supply of electricity to individual houses:

Men, women and children who are having weak health either due to mal nutrition or tiredness will feel all the more better with uninterrupted electric supply; electricity will make people feel more secure and comfortable in every day lives. People living in uninterrupted electricity supply housing colonies enjoy
better life styles by eating properly, sleeping properly and using many gadgets which are electricity friendly.

'Code of conduct' and 'discipline' wherever missing amongst some sections of population can be successfully reinforced.

Supplying electricity through cable lines have proved to be easy. Generating electricity through various
modes of technology are available in the market today.

The issue of pilferage must be dealt with firmly through available best technology and security manpower. Big spending by the government and/or private agencies on this issue is warranted.

Supply line loss could be dealt with better guaranteed technology and again big spending by the government and/or private agencies on this issue is warranted.

Business units must be reemphasised properly the multifold benefits that would accrue through their investments in power business Ministry for power must do everything possible to make a vision of generating power in a very big way. Leaders in this field like Reliance, Tata, Birla, Goenka and even those in other sectors like Infosys, Wipro who seem to be doing very well including other multinationals must be encouraged to make  all out efforts to manufacture and supply electricity in different parts of the country. High income groups living in cities and towns must be made responsible to bear the cost of part generating and supplying electricity to the villages and
districts for sometime till people in these places are able to pay for the power bills on their own - this idea is suggested because there is a wide disparity of income earned throughout the country and therefore, high earning groups of citizens must be made to feel privileged and so their help for this cause is solicited.

We keep hearing government's deficit is on the higher side due to extra borrowings. However, I am sure, a large part of the population will appreciate government's efforts to even go for further higher deficit and further borrowings if the funds are only going to be used for generating electricity in different parts of the country. This issue needs to  be properly explained through media for getting massive appreciation and full support.

The bottom line is that every penny spent in creating a unit of electricity is going to help the country achieve ten or maybe even one hundred times and more income through rapid multiplier effect and the biggest advantage would be better health for every citizen.
