Union Budget 2014 presents a promising future for sports in India
Finance Minister, Arun Jaitley has announced several plans under the sports budget during his Union Budget presentation today. This time around, the FM has focused on developing sports in the North East and Jammu and Kashmir, where there is plenty of talent, but has not been fully realised due to many reasons, primarily, it lacks infrastructure. Along with it, there were few other general plans introduced by the FM. talked to respective authorities and this is what they had to say:

Lets look at some major announcements one by one.

Development of sports in North East and Jammu and Kashmir

''I have been to all the places in North East and it has a great asset, especially when it comes to the field of sport, where talent is found in abundance. The region only lacks financial support. But, such kind of special plans will help in improving the infrastructure, developing and promoting the sport. North East has great talent, especially in sports such as Football, Taekewndo and Karate.''

National sports academy for different sports in different parts of India

''If the government executes this plan of setting up various sports academies in different parts of India, the move would be welcomed by everyone. If there is a sport, which is popular in one particular region and if the government establishes an academy of that particular sport in that region, the sport is going to prosper along with the sportsperson.''

100 crore set aside for Asian and Commonwealth Games

Vijay Sinha, General Secretary, Badminton Association of India

''This is definitely a good news for Indian sports. Though, there is good infrastructure, but as the decision has only been announced today by the finance minister during the budget, there is nothing concrete that can be said as of now. Nothing is clear, but we should see to it. But the budget announced would be used for the betterment of sports and sportsperson.''

Sports University in Manipur

''Yes, we are very excited about the decision taken to set up a sports university in Manipur. People from Manipur are very interested in sports and this university might help them achieve greater things in sports as well. This university is not only going help the youth of the region, but also people from all over the country. It is also the need of the hour for India.''
