Union Cabinet approves Lokpal Bill
According to the Lokpal Bill 2011, Lokpal that will be consisting of Chairperson and eight members shall inquire into allegations of corruption made by the politicians and bureaucrats.
THE UNION Cabinet today approved the Lokpal bill 2011 in, which the Prime Minister is exempted from investigation for corruption while he or she is in office. The bill will be introduced during the monsoon session of Parliament, which is going to start from Monday, August 1.
 
According to the Lokpal Bill 2011, Lokpal that will be consisting of Chairperson and eight members shall inquire into allegations of corruption made by the politicians and bureaucrats. According to reports, half of the members of the Lokpal will be from judiciary and the chairman will be either Supreme Court and High Courts retired or serving Chief Justice.
 
Under the Lokpal, the dignitaries will include, Prime Minister after he is demitted from office; union minister, Member of Parliament; any Group 'A' officer or equivalent; Chairperson or member or officer equivalent to Group 'A' in any body/ Board/ corporation/ authority/ company/ society/ trust/ autonomous body established by an Act of Parliament or wholly or partly financed or controlled by the Central Government; etc.
 
The government has dropped Anna Hazare and the demands made by his team in the Lokpal bill. However, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said that he had no objection to the Bill covering his office, during the two-hour cabinet meeting about the Lokpal bill.
 
Earlier, Gandhian Anna Hazare was said the government if their demand are not featured in the Lokpal bill, then he will again continue with his fast from August 16. One of the important demands of team Anna was that the Prime Minister should also come under the purview of the Lokpal.
