University of Rajasthan, Jaipur, is going to organize a two-day Workshop on Statistical Analysis of Biological Data on 9th and 10th September. The workshop, sponsored by Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, will be conducted at the University's Bioinformatics Infrastructure Facility (BIF). The researchers, post-graduate students and faculty of biology have been notified to attend the workshop.
According to the organizers of the workshop, Biology is becoming more and more informative science due to exponential growth of data generated through high through-put techniques. The participants will be taught how to manage large scale heterogeneous data-set and analyzing these for research problem.
To develop the appropriate research skills in biology, the workshop will give hands-on experiences on handing the essential data analysis tools and strategies. For making workshop relevant, the participants will write scripts and protocols for their research tasks and identify potential problems with their own data, and define their statistical needs to be fulfilled, informs the workshop brochure. Moreover, the case studies with common research scenarios such as micro-array data will emphasize practical skills during the workshop. Also, writing R-functions and analysis scripts at the beginning of the workshop will be another highlight of the workshop so that the skills could be made relevant to the on-going research work in biology.
