UP: 14 people including 13 children killed in bus accident; School found flouting norms
In a tragic accident, at least 14 people were killed when a school bus collided with a truck in Aliganj, Etah district. The bus was carrying 66 people including nearly 50 students of JS Vidya School and collided head-on with the truck, which was being driven at a high speed.

"At least 10 school children with grievous injuries have been taken to a super speciality hospital in Saifai while others with less serious injuries have been sent to hospitals in Aligarh and Agra districts," the District Magistrate of Etah said to media persons.

Among the 14 deceased are 13 school children and the driver of the bus. Reportedly, the accident happened due to poor visibility in the area. The bus has been so severely damaged that rescuers had to use gas cutters to pull out the dead bodies and the injured kids. Some of the dead bodies were beyond recognition and could only be recognised using the school identity cards.

A team of doctors has also been sent to the spot and those with serious injuries and have been shifted to specialised government hospitals in Aliganj and Agra.

The police have also taken note of the fact that the school was functioning despite the government's order that all schools shall remain shut till Friday because of the weather conditions.

"The management of J S Vidya Public School decided to have classes in violation of the district magistrate's orders," said Director-General of Police (DGP) Javeed Ahmad. "Strict action will be taken against the school," he stated.

Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Akhilesh Yadav, has directed senior officials to visit the accident spot and ensure that hospitals provide free treatment to the injured children.

The Prime Minister also expressed his anguish due to the tragedy.

"Anguished by the tragic accident in UP's Etah. I share the pain of the bereaved families and condole passing away of young children. I pray that those injured in the accident in Etah recover at the earliest," PM Modi said.
