UP floods: Solution needed to tackle the issue in a better manner in future
During monsoon season, some States do get lots of flood water and Uttar Pradesh (UP) is one of those States making headlines these days. Sometime back, there was a plan in the State of UP to tap the ranging rivers flowing from Nepal during the monsoon to generate hydro power.
According to various media reports, at least six rivers including Sharda, Rapti and Kuano, flowing from Nepal to the low lands on the Indo-Nepal border between the Gangetic Plain and the Himalayas and eastern U.P. have been causing havoc in the past many years during the monsoons.

As a result of these floods, major destructions are caused to crops, livestock and human lives especially in Bahraich, Kheri, Gorakhpur, Balrampur, Basti, Barabanki and Gonda. Concerned officials in U.P. in the past have initiated some action for storing these flood waters for generating electricity by constructing reservoirs.

Since this is a problem that is going on for years and may continue in the future as well, preventive measures should be taken well in time. Therefore, efforts should be on to efficiently divert the flood water for generating electricity on a fast pace which will result in a win win situation for the State.

Besides, U.P. there are also other States which are greatly effected by recurring floods on an year by year basis. A special task force may be created to find out ways and means of tackling this flood water issue for different States and one of the best options is by diverting these waters for creating electricity.

Researchers can also do well to find out better options as to how to quickly transfer the excess of flood water to steam which could generate electricity on a fast paced mode. Flood water is not only a problem for India but many other countries are also facing this challenge regularly and therefore any nice breakthrough of generating electricity through excess of flood waters would prove to be a blessing for mankind in the years to come.

Debates need to be initiated by involving experts as to how best to tackle the above issue which is a recurring problem faced by some States in the country.
