UP's Ghaziabad not yet ready for polls due on 10th April 2014
Several Lakhs of Ghaziabad Voters may not be able to vote in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, voting for which falls due on 10th April 2014. Several eligible residents of the Ghaziabad, particularly, from the areas like Indirapuram, Vaishali and Vasundhara, have applied long time back and submitted hard copies of the applications to the officials who visited and organized the camps in the Housing Societies in these areas. But the names of most of the residents have not been appearing in the Electoral Rolls till date despite repeated complaints.

There are some interesting cases also, like two Form 6 were submitted together in respect of husband and wife and now the Electoral Roll is showing only the name of the wife only. Some persons have received the Voter Card, but their names are not appearing in the Electoral Rolls. Even for those residents who have applied online before the last date of online applications - 9th March 2014, no action has been taken till date for inclusion of their names in the Electoral Rolls.

According to Col. T.P. Tyagi, Chairman of the Ghaziabad RWA Federation, the non-inclusion of several eligible residents in the Electoral Rolls is intentional and politically motivated.

“Unless the Chief Election Commissioner make timely intervention in the matter, several lakhs of eligible voters of this important constituency will not be able to exercise their franchise.”

This Lok Sabha constituency is witnessing a tough and interesting fight between Former Army Chief V.K. Singh (BJP), Actor Raj Babbar (Congress) and Journalist Shazia Ilmi(AAP).

In an election where even a single vote can decide the fortune of the candidates contesting the election, it would be interesting to watch as to how this deliberate lapse on the part of the local administration will ensure the fair election exercise in this high profile constituency.
