Urja Samiti needs donations to provide shelter to homeless and needy
Since the time of its inception, Urja Samiti has maintained two night shelters in Gurgaon and over last 2 years, more than 13,000 homeless and needy persons have been provided a place to spend their nights. These people, in chilling winters also have been provided with warm beddings, clean toilets, dinner, breakfast etc.

FOUNDED AND run by Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon in the year 2000, Urja Samiti provides night shelters to homeless people in Gurgaon. People staying in these shelters are provided food as well. But the organisation has lately been facing financial issues, and is therefore calling for help from various sections of society.

"Anybody can donate anything. You can donate through cash or cheque in favour of Urja Samiti. You may also provide food, clothes etc on various important occasions from your side," Sanjay Chugh, General Secretary of Urja Samiti and spokesperson of MCG appealed.

From past 12 years, Urja Samiti under the banner of MCG is supporting the cause and providing shelter to a number of homeless people. "Urja Samiti has been promoting the cause of clean energy and energy conservation. It has also been promoting various other causes of social welfare for weaker and marginal sections of society, such as promotion of kids, young, women as well as elder persons of different field to modern living standard, their awareness, rural awareness drives, cleanliness drives, tree plantations to make healthy environment and other means of service etc," Chugh told this citizen journalist .

During the 2010 winter, MCG had setup two night shelters in Gurgaon. These are located at Bhim Nagar, Railway Road, Gurgaon and in Community Center, Village Kanhai, Sector 44 - 45 road Near HUDA City Centre Metro Station, Gurgaon. They are offering shelter to number of people every day and night along with food and other necessities.

Since the time of its inception, Urja Samiti has been assigned to manage and maintain these night shelters. Over last 2 years, more than 13,000 homeless and needy persons have been provided a place to spend their nights. These people, in chilling winters also have been provided with warm beddings, clean toilets, dinner, breakfast etc.

"The beneficiaries include homeless and other needy people who were earlier forced to spend their nights at Railway Station, Metro Station, General Bus Stand and Road Sides, under various flyovers in the harsh weather." Chugh added.

Urja Samiti and its various volunteers are reportedly providing continuous service in maintaining various services in these night shelters also. But right now Urja Samiti is need of funds and appealed to local residents of Gurgaon to come forward and donate whatever they can in their ability.

"We are in need of funds and donations for these people as there is paucity of funds on account of the reason that up till now we have not collected any funds from any source and we have incurred expenses upon the maintenance of night shelters at our own. So, we appeal the donor industrialists and people to maintain and support these activities continuously by way of providing some funds for this purpose so that more and more such type of projects may be undertaken in the coming years" Sanjay Chugh appealed.
