US gives the nuclear deal a complete green signal
United States has assured India that irrespective of New Delhi's reservations, they would be moving ahead with the deal. Clinton mentioned to Krishna that the only obstruction was the liability legislation that the Indian Parliment has to approve.
IN A gigantic leap in the Indo-US civil nuclear deal, the United States has assured India that irrespective of New Delhi's reservations, they would be moving ahead with the deal.

The government has held the position that the deal is flawed and discriminatory in nature.

US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton had talks witht the Indian Foreign Minister SM Krishna in their meeting on Friday in New York, and the decision was conveyed, said Assistant Secretary of State Robert Blake.

He also stated that the UN Security council's plea urging all states to join the NPT was not the topic of discussion when Clinton and Krishna met.

Blake also said that "But  we've said before that the resolution that was passed on Thursday unanimously by the Security Council does not have any bearing on our bilateral civil nuclear cooperation and that really shouldn't have any effect whatsoever. So we've provided reassurances to that effect to our friends in the Indian government."

Clinton had mentioned to Krishna that the only obstruction in the way of the nuclear deal was the liability legislation that the Indian Parliment has to approve.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in the G 20 summit had stated that "We have been assured that this is not a resolution directed at India and that the US commitment to carry out its obligations under the civil nuclear agreements that we have signed with the United States remains undiluted that we have been assured officially by the United States government."

On the precariously help issue of trade relationship of India with Iran, Blake said Clinton made no request to Krishna about cutting off.

"But we have had very good dialogue in the past with India on nuclear issues and specifically with reference to Iran's nuclear ambitions, where I think Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has repeatedly made clear that they don't believe it is in India's interest to have another nuclear weapons state in the region," he said.
