US is one of the laziest countries in the world and this is the reason behind it!
We all know that the United States of America is the world's top most country in terms of economy and prosperity. But there is one more particular area where it features among the top most countries and you would be surprised to hear that. And yeah, it's nothing to brag about! USA is also the one of the world's laziest countries, a recent study has claimed.

Researchers from the Stanford University made use of step-counters installed in phones of people. Through this, they were able to track the number of steps that people take. The subjects of the study were spread across 46 countries and included around 700,000 people.

According to the study which has been published in the journal 'Nature', the least lazy people in the world are from Hong Kong.

The study has concluded the following statistics:

Worldwide average steps people take – 4,961 per day.

Average number of steps that Hong Kong people take – 6,880 per day.

Country that fared the worst – Indonesia with an average of 3,513 steps a day.

Average number of steps that Americans take – 4,774 steps per day.

But if Indonesians took the least number of steps per day, why is it not the most laziest country?

That's because of the difference in the number of steps between those who walked the most and those who walked the least. The researchers have used the term "activity inequality" to measure these gaps and in terms of this "activity inequality", United States ranks fourth from last.

The researchers have also concluded that such lack of inequality and such vast differences in "activity inequality" could be a major reason behind diseases like obesity that have gripped America.

Have a look at the statistics to get an idea of how widespread obesity is in America – 28 per cent of Americans are obese.

This figure is near to that of the Saudis – 27 per cent.

Now compare this with Japan where only 5.5 per cent of people are obese.

Also, it must be noted that about 5.3 million people die every year due to causes that are associated with physical inactivity. So shed that laziness and start doing some physical activity right away, and yes, make that a habit.
